Mortal Kombat X BOX 360
Mortal Kombat has never been really known for its great fighting style but really more so for its gore. It was usually slow and dull and started kind of going downhill in recent Mortal Kombat games. Does this new Mortal Kombat bring the franchise back on course or is this yet another fatality?
One of the surprising things about Mortal Kombat is the surprisingly lengthy and interesting story mode. Gone are the days of Puzzle Kombat and Chess Kombat. Now we are left with the main focus of the game. Previous Mortal Kombat story lines got tongue tied and tripped over themselves, they were usually forgettable and dragged on way longer than necessary. The only decent storyline given was from Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe. Mortal Kombat on the other hand has a pretty good storyline due to its simple formula. Raiden sees the future and witnesses Sonya Blade and company either dead or dying; he tells his present self that “He must win”. “He” can be anyone. So they must fight in Mortal Kombat to stop the future from ending in tragedy. That’s it. That’s the story. Along the way you’ll have really good character back stories and character development; ever wonder how Jax got his metal arms? Ever wonder what the hell a Kabal is? Mortal Kombat’s simple formula of storytelling and great character development gives you a reason to progress in the story mode. Story mode is also about 7- 8 hours long depending how much you get your butt kicked (which might and will happen at times). Mortal Kombat does take cues from Street Fighter IVwith the “X-Ray Attacks” (which we will get into later) replacing the Ultra attacks, and it does also take cues from Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe in the way the story mode is structured, which isn’t a bad thing considering that was a good story too.
